I’m a helper by nature. It’s how I was raised. I’m not looking for a pat on the back or anything… I really, genuinely just want to help people. For example, I like giving advice on nutrition, or letting folks know if a product is faulty, so that they can avoid wasting their money. I mean, I would want someone to do that for me, right?

My goal is to try to offer something useful every day. Mostly that just means sharing information that I have come across in my research. I realize most people are not interested in spending 8 hours a day researching the safety of the flu vaccine, for example… so I will save you the trouble and post the results. What you do with the information is up to you.

I feel almost duty-bound, for example, to let folks know if there is a food that may poison them, or a medicine that might make them sick. Sure, in general, it’s none of my business what people eat or what medicines they take…. but the thought that something bad might happen to them, and I potentially had the power to stop it…. well, that’s something I just can’t live with. I could no more let someone I care about get a toxic flu shot without the facts than I could let them step out into the street in front of a speeding car. I’m that person in the crowd who grabs you by the jacket and yanks you back onto the sidewalk, like it or not.

So, because I couldn’t bear the thought of another friend’s kid getting sick from the Gardasil shot, I warn them. I couldn’t live with myself if another friend’s kid got a chronic illness from a vaccine when I knew it could happen. If I keep my mouth shut, it’s the same as if I had given them the shot myself. I couldn’t live with the guilt. So I spend my days doing research, reading articles, reading studies…. and passing that information along. I truly feel it is my duty as a human being to do so. I genuinely believe that I may avert a tragedy by educating people about possible dangers and risks…. especially when there are entities who would stand to gain financially if those risks remained hidden. I consider myself part of a system of checks and balances in a world where mis-information is King.

But I get it. Many people don’t want to be helped. They want to figure it all out on their own, or even worse: pretend what you’re saying isn’t true, especially if it doesn’t fit the narrative they are comfortable with. People are sometimes so resistant to accept discordant information, as it turns out, that they would rather defriend me than consider that I might be right. “Cognitive dissonance” is defined as “the state of having inconsistent thoughts, beliefs, or attitudes, especially as relating to behavioral decisions and attitude change.” People do not want their illusions shattered.

I’m used to it. I tell people about dangerous stuff every day. Again, what people do with the information is up to them…. But many have taken to shooting the messenger. This is not fair!

But I get it. People don’t WANT to know. They want to continue to live in the fantasy world where the government is looking out for us, and would never let poison be sold in a colorful cereal box, and where the product you saw in the advertisement works just like they say it does! In fact, people cling to their illusions so desperately, that you would think to offer a hint that something is amiss is akin to attacking them personally. They lash out. They call me names. They accuse me of horrible things. Over the years I have lost more friends than I can count. People who didn’t want their illusions shattered. People who refused to believe that the benevolent government might not actually be looking out for them after all. People who would rather end their friendship with me than think for a second that maybe, just maybe, mammograms COULD cause cancer. Because the reality is: they can. But I get it. People are beaten down. They’re tired. They’re worn out. They just can’t take one more bit of bad news. I understand. I really do. But the alternative is: to say nothing?

So when I see you lining up like good little lemmings to get your flu shot, and I know it’s going to make you sick, I should say nothing? I see the new mother taking her 24-month old toddler in for a “wellness” check and getting 13 doses of toxic vaccines in one sitting, and I know that poor kid will have a lifetime of allergies, illnesses and damage, I should say nothing? Yes, ultimately, I realize that is exactly what most people want…. but I can’t do it. It’s like over-hearing a murder plot and then not warning the would-be victim what’s about to happen. It makes me complicit in the crime. I can’t do it. So I continue to share information… to warn people…. to shout from the rooftops. And every single day, I am beaten down for it. Ridiculed. Made fun of. Called names. Defriended. Blocked. For twenty years now, this messenger has suffered multiple gunshot wounds on a daily basis. So why do I keep doing it? Because I have no choice. Because the information needs to get out there… so I HAVE to do it.

Thankfully, there are others out there like me who are doing the same thing. We are small individual voices, but together we start to create a murmur… it starts quietly and slowly gets louder, until finally people start to think: “what if there is something to that?”

I know it’s a cliché to say “if I can help one child,” or, “if I can prevent one accident…,” but the truth is, that’s really all there is to it. The desire to help others. And so I persevere. So the next time you see something that I or one of my comrades has posted, and you think “what utter nonsense”… stop for a second and think about why, as you perceive the world through your unique and particular filter of reality, this information threatens you? And what it is about that uncomfortable feeling that makes you want to shoot this messenger?

In a timely article in today’s Daily Mail UK, Fred Pearce explains why the premise behind Monsanto’s GM movement to ‘feed the people’ is false. As many of you already know, we already produce enough food to feed the entire planet. The problem is not in quantity, as the GM advocates would have you believe…… growing GM crops is NOT the answer to the problem of getting the poorer nations fed.  Read this very informative article here.
